We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Nairobi, Kenya

As an affiliating member of The Association of Junior Leagues International, the Junior League of Nairobi offers so much more than local volunteering opportunities! Our members create real change by advancing social activism-focused projects that directly benefit the communities of Nairobi.

We are identifying the most pressing issues in our community right now, and we are helping local women take action to resolve them. By giving women the tools to lead, educating them about their communities’ needs, and helping them put their unique talents to work, Junior League of Nairobi is making a big impact on Nairobi.

TOTO CARE BOX

Our primary service project for 2022 is our collaboration with Toto Care Box.  Toto Care Box seeks to combat the loss of life among newborns in Kenya’s slums, currently 39,000 deaths per year, by supplying Mothers in these communities with the tools necessary to maintain the health of their babies.  In addition, they provide pre-natal check-ups, basic training on using the items in the box, and education on infant care.   The majority of neonatal deaths are due to  a lack of proper hygiene equipment.

Each Care Box is a maternal care package that contains items for the mother and the new born to ensure that the mother has what she needs to cater for her new born child for the first 28 days of life, which are the most critical. The items in the box have been chosen due to their possible impact on reducing the four-main causes of new born deaths in Kenya. These are: Malaria, Pneumonia, Diarrhea, Gastroenteritis and Neonatal tetanus.
